Befriending Your Emotions (Yes, All of Them)

A 90-minute class on how to use your emotional wisdom to manage anxiety, live authentically, and face life's worst challenges with courage and resilience

Do you wish you could rid yourself of difficult emotions? Maybe you believe life would be so much better without feelings like anger, fear, guilt, or grief.

The truth is, your emotions are simply information. Once you learn that, you'll realize they're one of your greatest assets!

Emotions are nonverbal messages from our brilliant internal guidance system called our empathic intelligence, which helps us masterfully navigate this complicated experience of being human. When you learn how  to partner with your emotions, you’ll be better equipped to face interpersonal conflict, stand up for your own needs and goals, set boundaries, take courageous action, and live a more authentic life.

Program Description

What's YOUR best strategy for coping with anxiety and other challenging emotions?

Do you try to ignore them? To shove them down or under to prevent them from interfering with life?

Maybe you were taught to treat them like you would treat a fearful child or an petulant relative. Acknowledge them. Sooth them. Try to accommodate them so they stop drawing so much attention.

Yeah. None of that stuff worked for me, either.

Our emotions can be relentless and there's a reason for that. It's because it’s their job to keep us alive. Which is more complicated than you think.

We humans have a form of genius called empathic intelligence that evolved long before our ability to speak or reason. It uses emotions to get our attention when it detects something significant in the environment. Sometimes it senses potential danger in our surroundings. Sometimes it’s picking up important nonverbal cues in interpersonal communication that relates to our ability to live comfortably with others. Every emotion carries important information that we should respect and investigate.

Once we start paying attention to our emotions, we discover a wealth of wisdom for steering through life’s turbulence. And these resources allow us to make the most of good times as well.

In Befriending Your Emotions, I'll teach you the exact skills to work with your emotions,  so they can work effectively for you!

Meet Cindy Olney

Hi, I’m Cindy.

I'm a grief educator and coach who helps adult children, spouses/ partners, and other family members grapple with the loss or anticipated loss of a loved one.

My clients are facing the most emotionally vulnerable situations you can imagine. The first thing I teach them is to lean into emotions and use them to cope with their losses. They learn how to use their emotional wisdom to guide them through stress, heartbreak, and change.

The skills I teach are not specific to loss. My clients struggle with a wide range of emotions in their journey through grief.

They’re the same emotions I struggle with every day. And so do my friends. My fellow coaches and doulas. And just about everyone I’ve ever met.

That’s why I’m presenting this workshop to anyone who finds certain emotions are challenging. The techniques you’ll learn work when you're anxious about your future, facing conflict at work, coping with shame, or struggling with anger, hatred, or envy. In Befriending Your Emotions, you’ll learn simple techniques to stop working against your emotions and start taking advantage of the brilliant guidance they offer you.

A little more about me

I have a PhD in educational psychology, with an emphasis in learning and development, and have promoted learning and self-empowerment throughout my career. I'm a certified life coach through Martha Beck’s Wayfinder Coach Training and an end-of-life doula, through the School to Accompany the Dying.

What others say about Shadowlands Emotions Training

"[Cindy] helped me understand that I was trying to think my way out of grief. I learned that the "emotional" trauma of the loss was what had me living in a fog. Once I understood that, she suggested strategies that helped me learn to move ahead more effectively."
